EA Exam Review FAQs

What is the EA Exam (SEE) and how does it work?

The Enrolled Agent (EA) Exam, also called the Special Enrollment Examination (SEE), is a three-part text required by the IRS to earn the Enrolled Agent credential. Each part covers different areas of U.S. tax law and practice.

What does an Enrolled Agent do?

Enrolled Agents (EAs) are tax professionals with unlimited representation rights before the IRS. They can represent clients in all tax matters, including audits, collections, and appeals, as well as provide tax preparation and planning services.

What’s on each EA Exam Part?

The EA Exam parts are:
o   Part 1—Individuals
o   Part 2—Business
o   Part 3—Representation, Practices, and Procedures

Becker's EA Exam Review provides targeted preparation for each part.

How many hours should I study for each EA Exam part?

 On average, Becker recommends:

  • Part 1: 70–90 hours
  • Part 2: 80–100 hours
  • Part 3: 60–80 hours

However, your background and existing knowledge of U.S. taxation will affect these numbers.

When does Becker update their EA course?

Our EA Exam Review is updated frequently to match the exam, and each March, we complete a significant update to align with the newly released IRS exam. Updates will include edits to the digital textbooks, new or updated lecture videos, multiple-choice questions, and flashcards, all at no extra cost for existing EA students.

How long will I have access to my Becker EA Exam Review course?

With the Pro Exam Review package, you will have unlimited access to your Becker EA Exam Review course until you pass all 3 sections of the EA Exam. The Essentials 3-part Exam Review package and single-part exam review courses (Part 1, Part 2, or Part 3) all feature 12-month access. Students who have not passed all parts of the EA Exam when their course access expires can request a free 3-month extension through the Becker Promise Policy if conditions are met.

When is the EA Exam offered and how do I schedule it?

The EA Exam is offered annually from May 1 through the end of February at Prometric testing centers (there's a pause in testing from March 1 through April 30 that allows the IRS to update the exam with new tax law). You can schedule your exam online via Prometric after obtaining your PTIN from the IRS.
