Carrying Costs

Carrying costs are the costs incurred to carry an asset (e.g., the costs incurred to carry inventory). Examples of carrying costs include the opportunity cost of the funds that are being used to carry the asset (i.e., the next best investment alternative), storage of the asset, insurance for loss of the asset, costs of obsolescence, various types of shrinkage, etc.
