How to become a CFP® professional

Whether you're a CPA, Enrolled Agent, or a non-credentialed accounting, tax, or financial services professional, BIF provides a streamlined path to meet your requirements and earn your CFP® Certification.

CFP® certification for CPAs

CPAs can take an Accelerated Path to becoming a CFP® professional by skipping much of the required coursework and only completing a CFP Board-Registered Capstone course, proving your knowledge of the core topics in real-world scenarios and case-studies. After passing the Capstone, you must then meet the other CFP® certification requirements related to experience, ethics, and passing the CFP® Exam.

The traditional path to CFP® certification

Most CFP® candidates, including Enrolled Agents and non-licensed accountants, must complete a full CFP Board Registered coursework program. This program includes university-level classes covering principal knowledge topics and culminates in a Capstone course that applies the learned concepts. You must also meet pass the CFP® Exam and meet the ethics and experience requirements.
