Cumulative Preferred Shares

Shares with a preference usually are entitled to a fixed amount of money before distributions can be made with respect to nonpreferred shares. With cumulative preferred shares, if a dividend is not declared in a particular year, the right to receive the preference accumulates and must be paid before nonpreferred shares may be paid any dividend.
