LIFO Layers

The U.S. GAAP LIFO method of inventory accounting requires that records be maintained for base year inventory amounts plus any additional layers that may be added in years in which ending inventory is greater than beginning inventory. An additional LIFO layer is priced at the earliest costs of the year in which it was created.
