Accounting Dictionary

Risk-Free Rate

The risk-free rate is the interest rate that would be paid on a riskless security. It is approximated by the interest rate on short-term U.S. Treasury securities. The real risk-free rate assumes no inflation; the nominal risk-free rate assumes inflation so that the nominal risk-free rate is the real risk-free rate plus an inflation risk premium.
