Most states require a specific number of credits in certain areas of study. For example, California CPA CPE requirements stipulate that licensees who provide audit or attestation services or who issue compiled financial statement reports must complete 24 hours of CPE within those areas during the two-year licensing period. Meanwhile, Massachusetts CPE requirements mandate four hours of ethics CPE within their two-year renewal period.
