IIA Auditing Project Management Practices

Ensuring new initiatives are properly managed is fundamental toward the assurance that implementation costs are contained, resources are properly allocated and utilized, and the finished product is beneficial to the process owner. Projects should be managed using a proven and repeatable methodology. Internal auditors need a basic understanding of project management. Without this knowledge, internal auditors may not fully comprehend project management objectives and the associated risks and may lack the ability to assess the design or effectiveness of controls related to those risks.
