Maryland CPA CPE requirements
After you earn your CPA license, you'll need to renew your license periodically. Part of the renewal process is completing continuing professional education. We're walking you through the Maryland CPA CPE requirements and how to renew your license so you can stay in good standing with the Board of Accountancy.
How to renew your CPA license in Maryland
In Maryland, CPAs must renew their license by December 31 of even-numbered years. To renew your CPA license, follow these steps:
- Complete your CPE requirements and submit documentation
- Log into your account through the Department of Labor's electronic licensing site
- Complete the license renewal form
- Pay the license renewal fee
- Print verification of your renewal
Maryland CPE requirements
All CPAs must complete 80 hours of CPE during each two-year renewal period. Of those hours, you must earn four hours of ethics CPE.
Becker's CPE course, Ethics, Integrity, and the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct (Expanded Version) meets Maryland's four-hour ethics CPE requirement.
If you earn over 80 hours of CPE, you can carry over up to 80 hours to the next renewal period. For example, if you earn 115 hours of CPE during a period, you can carry over the extra 35 hours to the next renewal period.

Tips to meet your Maryland CPE requirements
We understand that it may seem difficult to meet your CPE requirements, these tips can help take the stress out of CPE.
Choose a format that works with your lifestyle
Making time for CPE is probably the biggest challenge. Fortunately, Maryland doesn't have limits on how you can earn your CPE, so you can earn credits through live webcasts, on-demand courses, or even CPE podcasts. On-demand courses and podcasts let you learn anytime and anyplace, but even if you prefer a scheduled webcast, Becker offers options throughout the day, including some weekends and evenings.
Keep up with your progress
Make sure you don't lose track of how many credits you've earned or how much you still have left to get before your renewal deadline. Becker's CPE Compliance Tracker lets you keep your CPE all in one spot (even from other providers), and the dashboard shows you your progress, what you have left, and provides recommendations for courses that align with your interest.
Make time for CPE
Set aside time on your calendar each month to dedicate to taking CPE so you don't have to scramble to fulfill your requirements by the end of the renewal cycle. We recommend at least four hours each month, so you have a bit of a cushion of extra time if you miss a month or two.
