Noncumulative Preferred Shares

Shares with a preference usually are entitled to a fixed amount of money before distributions can be made with respect to nonpreferred shares. Unless the dividend is cumulative the right to a dividend preference is extinguished if it is not declared for that year. See also cumulative preferred shares.
