O Profissional de Auditoria Interna (IAP) é designado pelo The IIA a estudantes e profissionais de auditoria em início de carreira que demonstraram aptidão nos fundamentos de auditoria interna, embora ainda não tenham concluído todos os requisitos para a certificação Certified Internal Auditor (CIA). É uma designação permanente obtida ao ingressar no processo de candidatura do IAP e ser aprovado na Parte 1 do exame CIA. Os IAPs que posteriormente atendem aos requisitos de formação e experiência para a certificação CIA precisam apenas ser aprovados nas Partes 2 e 3 do exame CIA.
