Cannabis: Audit Readiness
Learning objectives
After completing this course, the learner should be able to:
- Explain what “highly regulated” means in cannabis by describing how tax, licensing, inventory, product compliance, cash controls, and required reporting systems create layered oversight and audit risk
- Identify the major oversight sources and audit triggers across federal, state, local, banking, and financial statement contexts, and understand how one issue can cascade into multiple reviews
- Recognize the most common record and control breakdowns that cause audit exposure, including inventory and seed-to-sale mismatches, POS reporting inconsistencies, unsupported adjustments, and weak cash documentation
- Apply an audit-readiness framework by implementing a monthly evidence-and-controls routine that keeps POS, seed-to-sale, cash support, filings, and documentation consistent and easy to verify
