Session Layer (Layer 5)
The layer responsible for establishing, maintaining, and terminating connections between devices and ensuring data synchronization. Protocols used in this layer include SQL, Remote Procedure Call (RPC) and Network File System (NFS). See also Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) Model.
